Inspiration for MQG swap

Here are some of the quilts I have made or admired in the past few years.  Thanks For The Swap (TFTS)!  See also the other pages of this blog for some of my earlier projects.

Not mine, but I love the action and colors.  Yellow is a hard color for me, but it always seems to add a lot to a quilt, when used well.

Another quilt from the Internet — Called a Dowry Quilt.  It’s a bit busy for me but love the action and colors.

This quilt was showing at the Pasadena MQG show.  Love the depth of the colors.

This quilt was in the County Fair here in Omaha. I like the border and the shapes, I would likely have chosen some different fabric for the center.

quilts, quilts and more quilts

What have I been up to since I saw you last?  Quilts, quilts and more quilts.  Mostly baby quilts and birthday quilts.  Even tried machine quilting using my old Kenmore — was do-able but not recommended.   What have you been doing?

What are “Fun-ctional” fiber arts?

FFA’s are–art that you can use!  This is a very broad definintion, but I take particular pleasure in creating art that has one or more of the characteristics below:

  • Utilizes fibers or materials that are found, recycled, or that I’ve been “saving” just for this project
  • Makes the recipient smile
  • Can be incorporated into a daily task or activity, to make it more “fun”
  • Has that “wabi-sabi” feel/potential and spirit — something wonderfully familiar, worn, or exhibiting a fine patina reflecting use over time

What is fun and functional about art for you?

Look in your closet — what colors are you?

If you were to make a rag rug out of all the worn out clothes in your closet, what colors of the rainbow would you find in the rug?

When making a quilt for a friend, ask them to pick out a few fabrics. They probably aren’t the ones you would choose. Use those fabrics to find others that really make the other ones shine.
